Barbara Jean Evans Metro passed away peacefully on August 31st 2023. Barbara was born on October 17, 1928 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of Charles and Jeanette Evans. Barbara grew up as a middle child with two brothers, Chas and Dick, whom she was devoted to. Barbara attended Elmira College and graduated from Mary Washington College in 1950. She met the love of her life, Charles “Sidney” Metro whom she was married to for nearly 60 years. Barbara and Sid moved to Glen Ridge, NJ where they raised their four children. She was a longtime and active member of the Glen Ridge Congregational Church, the Rotary Club of Glen Ridge and a former member of the Glen Ridge Women’s Club and the Junior League of Montclair and Newark. Barbara loved people, adventure, going to plays in New York, traveling and making people laugh. She enjoyed going to luncheons with friends, and dinners with family. Barbara and Sid also lived in Lauderhill, Florida and Montclair, NJ. She adored her children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Barbara loved life and also had a great faith in God.
Barbara is survived by her children, Susan Levy (John Levy), Pat Sedarat, (John Sedarat), Nancy D’Andrea (Guy D’Andrea) and David Metro (Denise Metro). She is survived also by her six grandchildren, Brittany Clauss (Bryan Clauss), Lindsay Shea (Kevin Shea), Michael D’Andrea (Bakari Williams), Christopher D’Andrea (Alexandra D’Andrea), Kevin Metro (Sanji Metro), and Jeff Metro as well as her three great grandchildren, Brooke and Blake Clauss and Charles D’Andrea. She is also survived by her honorary grandchildren Alex and Mallory Zwick and their daughter Emma Zwick. In lieu of flowers, her wishes are that a donation be made to the Glen Ridge Congregational Church 195 Ridgewood Avenue Glen Ridge, NJ. 07028.
Viewing for Barbara will be on Wednesday, September 6th from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Halpin - Bitecola Brookdale Funeral Home 1284 Broad Street Bloomfield, NJ 07003. Barbara’s Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, September 7th at 10:00 am at the Glen Ridge Congregational Church.
