Cheryl A Janson

Cheryl A. Janson, age 76, succumbed to cancer on Sept. 9, 2023 in New Jersey. She was born in Columbus, Ohio, was preceded in death by her husband Ward W Smith, and is survived by her siblings Phyllis and Doug and numerous cousins.

Cheryl earned degrees from The Ohio State University and the University of Wisconsin.  She worked as a research biochemist for various chemical and pharmaceutical companies throughout the US and was an adjunct professor at Montclair State University.  She had a passion for people and was always willing to help others.  She crocheted, knitted, and sewed countless baby blankets, sweaters, quilts, and stuffed animals for family members and a host of charitable groups.  The letters she wrote supporting family and friends were legendary.  Cheryl loved classical music and played her cello whenever she found spare time.  She loved the outdoors and was an avid bicyclist, hiker, and gardener.
