Joseph R. Derbin, a cherished family man and devoted mason, passed away on March 28, 2025, at the age of 52. Born on January 20, 1973, in Newark, NJ, Joseph embodied a spirit of dedication and hard work his life.
15 years, he proudly served as a mason for Union Local 4, where his craftsmanship and commitment to his trade earned him the respect of his peers and the gratitude of those who benefited from his labor. Joseph's passion extended beyond his career; he had a fervent love for football, often spending weekends engrossed in the excitement of watching his favorite team, the LA Raiders. He also found joy in driving, particularly in classic cars, which allowed him to indulge in his passion for automobiles.
Joseph is survived by his beloved children, Devon Genovesi, Joseph Whelan, Jacqueline Ferrara, and Charlotte Ferrara, as well as his stepchildren, Anthony, Dante, RJ, Rachel, and Nick. His legacy will continue through his family, including his brother Louis Carroll and brother Frank Derbin Jr., his aunts Janet Ragucci Alvarado, Maryann Smith, Malaina Carroll, and Barbara Jean Donahue. and uncles Robert and David Denton. He held a special place in his heart for his goddaughter, Emma, whose life he touched with his kindness and support, Special thanks to Tina Marie Rodriguez and Cousin Anthony Genovesi for your love and support.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 15 years, Chrissy, whose vibrant spirit he cherished deeply. Joseph also mourned the loss of his parents, Frank and Jacqueline Derbin, who instilled in him the values of hard work and dedication that he carried throughout his life, and his uncle Tyrone Carroll.
Joseph's visitation will be held on March 31, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Halpin-Bitecola-Brookdale Funeral & Cremation Services in Bloomfield, NJ. Interment will take place at 11 AM on Tuesday April 1, 2025 at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. His family invites all who knew him to join them in celebrating a life well-lived, a life characterized by devotion to family, a strong work ethic, and a love for the simple joys that made each day special.
