Lorraine Della Volpe (née Lescavage), 91, of Upper Montclair, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2025.
Born in Shenandoah, PA, to the late Matthew and Helen Lescavage, Lorraine moved to Newark, NJ, as a young child. She attended Essex County Vocational and Technical High School, where she discovered her passion for hairdressing and went on to work as a hairstylist for many years.
At just 18, Lorraine married the love of her life, Frank “Babe” Della Volpe. Together, they built a beautiful life, first in Belleville before settling in Upper Montclair in 1964, where they raised their family. Married for 66 years, their love was a constant until Frank’s passing in 2018.
Lorraine was an active member of St. Vincent’s Auxiliary and contributed to St. Cassian’s and Lacordaire Academy’s fashion shows and fundraisers. She enjoyed bowling in a league at Valley Bowl, trips to the casino, and crafting beautiful floral arrangements. A true fashion enthusiast, Lorraine was always impeccably dressed, often in her signature high heels. However, her greatest joy came from time spent with her family, especially preparing Sunday dinners surrounded by her grandchildren.
Lorraine is survived by her son, Wayne Della Volpe and his wife Linda; her daughter, Lisa Dennin and her husband Timothy; her brother, Thomas Lescavage and his wife Betty; and her beloved grandchildren: Tyler Dennin and his wife Sara, Jessica Greenberg and her husband Jared, Travis Della Volpe and his wife Daniela, Eric Della Volpe, and Meghan Rahner and her husband Raymond. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Kora, Ryleigh, Teague, Neave, Avery, and Ryan. She was predeceased by her brother William Lescavage and his wife Josephine.
Visitation will be held on February 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Halpin-Bitecola-Brookdale Funeral & Cremation Services located at 1284 Broad St, Bloomfield, NJ. A Mass will be celebrated on February 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Saint Cassians Roman Catholic Church, 187 Bellevue Avenue, Upper Montclair, NJ, followed Entombment in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Upper Montclair, NJ.
Lorraine was a beautiful, glamorous and wildly wonderful mother and will be remembered for her warmth, elegance, and unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, style, and cherished memories.
