Margaret Grosso, (nee Novak), 92, of Bloomfield NJ, passed away peacefully at Mountainside Hospital on September 26, 2017
Margaret was born in Bayonne NJ on March 6, 1925 to Anna and Emery Novak. After high school, Margaret was an administrative assistant at Western Electric in Kearney. In the Summer of 1948 Margaret met her life partner Michael on a blind date at a dance at St. James Church Hall in Newark, NJ; engaged at Christmas that year and married in September 1949 at St. Joseph’s Church, Bayonne, NJ. Sixty-eight years later you could still see them holding hands and sitting arm-in arm. Together they would do jigsaw puzzles. Margaret would do the lower section and Michael would do the sky or upper section.
In the early years, Margaret worked in the Admissions office of Catholic University while Michael completed his engineering degree. In 1959 they moved to Bloomfield, where they raised their five children. Margaret was a loving mother to her children and active with volunteer work at the Bloomfield Public Library and the library at St. Thomas Catholic School. She was active in many ministries at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, especially embroidering the baptismal gowns. .
Every December there was a constant stream of aromas of cookies baking for the Christmas feast. Come Christmas Eve there would be tins and tins of all flavors, styles and types of cookies. Everyone looked forward to the opening of the tins.
Margaret was an avid reader and enjoyed completing countless word search puzzles.
