Norman H. Cox of South Orange passed away on Monday June 16, 2014 at the age of 90. Born in Hackensack, Norman grew up in Rutherford and moved to South Orange over 60 years ago. Mr. Cox was a science teacher for the South Orange Board of Education for 35 years prior to his retirement 25 years ago. He had earned both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Montclair State College. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, president of the South Orange Symphony Orchestra and an active member of First Presbyterian Trinity Church in South Orange. Mr. Cox and his wife had visited 27 elder hostels throughout the United States, visiting several colleges and universities.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 3 - 5 & 7 - 9 p.m. at Frank Halpin's Brookdale Funeral Home, 1284 Broad St, Bloomfield, NJ. The funeral service will be held on Friday June 20th in the First Presbyterian Trinity Church, 111 Irvington Avenue, South Orange at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
Mr. Cox was predeceased by his wife Doris L. (nee Frey) Cox and a brother Donald Cox. He is survived by a daughter Helen L. Cox & her husband Alan Fendler and a son Paul N. Cox & his wife Roseann; sister, Hazel Burke, brother David Cox; also survived by 4 grandchildren.
