On Tuesday April 11, 2023, Robert F. Eskdale, passed away peacefully at the age of 97.
Robert proudly served our country during WWII. He was an underwater demolition specialist in our US Navy. He was the commander of the American Legion, as well as belonging to the elite veteran’s organization, 40 and 8. Robert also belonged to the Elks Club. In 2015 Robert was the Grand Marshall of the Bloomfield Memorial Day Parade, and the commander of the VFW white eagle post.
Robert was known to be a generous man who was always ready to listen or lend a hand. He enjoyed the Altantic City boardwalk and casinos, as well as repairing everything. What he loved most was spending time with family at the beach bungalow in Lavallette.
Robert was predeceased by his wife and love of his life Helen (nee Crelin); sister Enid Bartlett. He is survived by; daughters, Susan E. Purcell, her husband Nicholas, Cynthia A. DeRosa, her husband Dominick; granddaughter Sarah J. DeRosa; 4 footed granddogs Reggie, Valentino, and Oreo.
Friends and family may visit from 6 – 8 pm, Monday April 17th at Halpin-Bitecola Funeral Home, located at 1284 Broad Street, Bloomfield, NJ 07003. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 60 Byrd Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ on Tuesday April 18th at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair.
