Shirley Helwig

Shirley H. (nee Harrison) Helwig of Clifton passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the age of 92. She was born in Staten Island, New York on February 9, 1922 and has resided in Clifton since 1951. Shirley was a graduate of Caldwell High School, attended the Montclair Kimberly School for Girls and the Peck School in Morristown. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a secretary in Newark and Bloomfield. Mrs. Helwig was a former member of the Montclair Art Museum, the Montclair Beach Club, the Clifton Association of Artists and friend of the New Jersey Society of Mayflower Descendants. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Halsey Helwig; parents Leon & Edna (nee Baldwin) Harrison; sister, Audrey Barres; and brother Robert Harrison. She is survived by her daughter Joan Helwig, Esq; sister-in-law Carolyn Pease; nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Private cremation was held under the direction of Frank Halpin's Brookdale Funeral Home, 1284 Broad Street, Bloomfield, N.J.
