William J. “Bill” Towey, a lifelong resident of Bloomfield, passed away peacefully on July 17th, 2020.
Bill honorably served our country from 1955 - 1961 as a Special Sergeant in the U.S. Army, first in Japan, and then in the Korean Demilitarized Zone. Shortly after leaving the Army, Bill began work at the Prudential Insurance Company as a computer programmer and retired as a manager of information systems after 36 years. He was a parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield for 57 years.
Bill was also a seasonal resident of Point Pleasant Beach from boyhood, where his favorite moments were shared with his entire family on the deck, telling stories of the past and listening to every song he ever knew. He also enjoyed Tuesday golf, and was a “builder of things.” When he didn’t have a project on hand, his sons could look forward to moving the house “three inches to the right!” He also enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren’s many activities and events.
Bill leaves behind his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Ann Towey, together for a total of 67 years; their three sons, Bill and his wife Dana, Jim and his wife Marie, and Mark Towey; their four grandchildren, Kelly, Ryan, Jaimie, and Karyn; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Sarah Towey; his brother Bernard, his sister Moira Schneider and her husband Robert.
A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 am on Tuesday, July 21st at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Interment will be held privately.
Memorial donations in Bill’s name may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation.
